Printing Press

$1.69 AUD

Alongside the invention of the wheel, electric light and the internet, the invention of the printing press was one of history’s great, transformative moments. What, exactly, is a printing press? Printing itself is simply the reproduction of type or images. A printing press is a piece of equipment which enables printing to occur.

Why was the printing press so important? Just imagine life without books, magazines or newspapers! This is how most people lived before the printing press. During this time, the only way to produce books, or ‘scripts’ as they were known, was for a scribe to write them by hand. Even though scribes usually worked in teams, it took them months, sometimes even years, to produce one book! Because of this, very few were produced. Indeed, only the rich or powerful could own them.
